Order of the Sunflower
The Order of the Sunflower recognizes military spouses, family members, community leaders, and government employees for work that has a significant impact on the military installation and/or the community where they serve. The Order of the Sunflower is issued on a quarterly basis. Submissions for fall nominees are being accepted now through October 1, 2026. Certificates for those being honored will be issued in November.
Before submitting a nomination for the Order of the Sunflower, please review the following criteria:
- All requests should reflect extraordinary work that has had a significant impact on communities within Kansas.
- Submissions should include detailed descriptions and specific examples of ways a nominee's actions benefited others, solved a problem, or improved the broader community.
- Submissions should reflect specific contributions made beyond participation in established support groups/clubs.
- Contact information for the approving official (first battalion or equivalent/higher level commander) must be included in the submission. A signed letter of support on official letterhead from the approving official must be uploaded at the time the nomination is submitted, along with two letters of recommendation from individuals not related to the nominee.
- If awarded, the certificate will be mailed to the nominating official who is responsible for ensuring the certificate is framed and prepared for presentation.
