Sebelius names Steven Deiter 22nd District Magistrate Judge Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed Steven Patrick Deiter District Magistrate Judge of the 22nd Judicial District encompassing Brown, Doniphan, Marshall and Nemaha Counties. “Steve has a broad range of legal experience and strong ties to his community,” said Sebelius. “He is well respected and has strong working relationships with many in the legal and law enforcement communities. I am certain he will serve the people of the 22nd district well.” A native Kansan, Deiter, Sabetha, graduated from St. Mary’s High School before going on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and a juris doctorate from Washburn Law School. Presently, Deiter is a partner at Mishler & Deiter Law Office in Sabetha where he practices a range of criminal, civil, municipal and juvenile law. Additionally, Deiter serves as the legal aide attorney and public defender for the Kickapoo Tribe, as well as the assistant city attorney for Sabetha, Morrill and Oneida. Deiter will fulfill the unexpired term of the Honorable James B. O’Conner who passed away. An elected position, this seat will be on the 2008 ballot.
