Sebelius signs first bills of the 2008 Legislative Session

Five weeks into the 2008 Legislative Session, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed the first two bills. The bills signed today address cash flow and fund management issues within certain state agencies.

These two bills will go into affect upon publication of the statute book.

  • Increasing Transfers to the Kansas Corporation Commission: HB 2491 increases the amount of money annually transferred by the State Treasurer from the Motor Carrier License Fee Fund to the Kansas Corporation Commission from $400,000 to $700,000. The bill also moves the transfer date from July 2nd up to January 2nd. The last time these annual transfers were increased was in 1988. The changes will allow the Kansas Corporation Commission to cover their program expenditures during the fiscal year.
  • Creating the Wildlife and Parks Non-Restricted Fund: HB 2587 codifies a long standing proviso establishing the Wildlife and Parks Non-Restricted Fund in the State Treasury and allowing the fund to maintain the interest earned on its balances.
