Sebelius names Judge Stephen N. Six Kansas Attorney General Citing his experience as an attorney and district judge, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has named Judge Stephen N. Six as Kansas’ new Attorney General. “A respected legal professional with more than ten years’ experience in litigation and trial work, Steve is an independent-minded judge who has served the people of Kansas well,” Sebelius said. “He has answered the call of public service again, and is ready to lead the people’s law firm effectively, responsibly, with character and integrity.” Six, Lawrence, was a partner in the law firm, Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman before being named to the seventh judicial district bench by Governor Sebelius in 2005. In his ten years of private practice, Six specialized in complex litigation and trial work. Between 1993 and 1994, he served as a Judicial Clerk for The Honorable Deanell R. Tacha, United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, assisting in researching and writing appellate opinions. Six has been active in bar organizations, including service on the Bench-Bar Committee for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He has served on the Kansas Bar Association Board of Governors, the Bench-Bar Committee and as Chairman of the Mandatory Malpractice Disclosure Committee. He has also served as a member of the Kansas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. Six received his undergraduate degree in 1988 from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He graduated with his juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law, in 1993, where he was a Note and Comment Editor on the Kansas Law Review, a member of the Order of the Coif honors society and a Rice Foundation Scholarship recipient. Article 1, Section 11 of the Kansas Constitution provides that where there is a vacancy in the office of the Attorney General, the Governor fills the vacancy by appointment for the duration of the term. Six fills the unexpired term of Paul Morrison whose resignation is effective January 31st, 2008. Six will be sworn in on January 31. He and his wife Betsy, have four children: Emily, 9; Sam, 8; Henry, 5; and Will, 2. # # # |
