Sebelius appoints 11 to the State Library of Kansas Board

Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed 11 to the State Library of Kansas Board, which was created with SB 67 and signed by the governor during the 2007 Legislative Session.

“Ensuring that our public schools and Regents institutions have access to the library network expands the opportunities Kansans have to read, learn and explore,” Sebelius said.

            Appointed to the board are:

  • Micaela Ayers, El Dorado, is the library director at Butler County Community College.
  • John Flower, Bonner Springs, has more than 15 years experience in strategic planning with SBC/AT&T.
  • Lori Goetsch, Manhattan, is the dean of libraries at Kansas State University.
  • Martha House, Council Grove, is a librarian at Council Grove High School.
  • Nancy Keith, Effingham, is an elementary school principal in Atchison County.
  • Donna Lauffer, Overland Park, is the CEO of the Johnson County library system.
  • Marisa Lewis, Wichita, is an engineering librarian for the Hawker Beechcraft Corporation.
  • James Minges, Roeland Park, is the director of the Northeast Kansas Library System.
  • Marion Renner, Haysville, is a retired teacher with fifty years of classroom experience.
  • Gail Stucky, Moundridge, is co-director of libraries at Bethel College in Newton.
  • Michelle Swain, Arkansas City, is the director of the Arkansas City Public Library.

This board promotes cooperation with the Kansas Board of Regents to ensure the inclusion of libraries on the KAN-ED network and continues the availability of statewide library reference resources.

Membership consists of seven professional librarians, a trustee of a public library, two representatives of the general public and one qualified member of the Kansas Federation of Women’s Clubs.  Additionally, the board includes the Executive Officer of the Board of Regents, the Commissioner of Education, and the State Librarian as ex officio members.

Members will serve four-year terms.
