Kansas-grown Christmas tree to be delivered to Cedar Crest

Cedar Crest, the Kansas Governor’s residence, will soon be home to an eight and a half foot tall Kansas-grown Christmas tree.

“It’s been tradition that the Cedar Crest Christmas tree is grown right here in Kansas,” Governor Sebelius said. “It’s a great way to begin the holiday season as well as promote the tree growers in our state.”

This year’s tree, a Scotch-pine variety, was grown at the Strawberry Hill Christmas Tree Farm in Lawrence.

In addition to Christmas trees, Strawberry Hill Christmas Tree Farm also treats guests to Christmas music, free hayrides, hot-spiced cider and cookies. Visitors can also purchase wreaths, gifts, and crafts and also see a model Victorian village.

Christmas tree farms are an estimated $1 million-per-year industry in Kansas. Farmers have tailored their operations to tourists looking to visit a working ranch, rope a calf, ride a horse, or choose their own Christmas tree.

“Christmas tree farms are just one more way for rural communities to diversify their economies and create jobs,” Sebelius said.
