Sebelius names Karen Conklin to the Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Karen Conklin as a member of the Kansas Technical College and Technical School Commission. “Kansas industries need more machinists, pipe fitters, fabricators and specialized workers,” Sebelius said. “These jobs require specific skills and are in high demand. This commission helps guide the efforts of Kansas technical schools in preparing students to take full advantage of these opportunities.” Conklin, Shawnee, holds several degrees from Pittsburg State University including graduate degrees in vocational/technical education, secondary school counseling and industrial/technical education and research. Retired in 2001, Conklin is a highly published expert in the field of technical education. The Kansas Technical College and Technical School Commission was created by the 2006 Legislature to study the mission, governance, and funding of Kansas technical colleges and vocational education schools. The commission works to ensure that technical education in Kansas provides students with the opportunities to attain their educational goals through quality technical training, customized industry training, and continuing education. The commission is also responsive to the education and training needs of business and industry in order to provide an educated workforce to meet the demands of the Kansas economy. # # # |
