Sebelius appoints Barry Schwan to
Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission

Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Barry Schwan to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.

“This commission will play an important part in guiding the revitalization of Kansas’ dog and horse racing,” Sebelius said. “By ensuring accountability and professionalism, this commission will help Kansas communities prosper.”

Schwan, Wichita, is president of House of Schwan beverage wholesalers and is a graduate of the University of Colorado.

Active in his community, Schwan serves as president of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, is past president of the Wichita State University Foundation, former chairman of the Wichita/Sedgwick County Alcohol & Drug Abuse Advisory Board, and chair of the Chamber Pro Sports Committee. As an advocate for animals, Schwan sits on the boards of the Kansas Humane Society, the Sedgwick County Zoological Society and its Foundation.

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is dedicated to protecting the integrity of Kansas’ racing and gaming industries through enforcement of Kansas laws and is committed to preserving and instilling public trust and confidence.

Also reappointed to this commission to a four-year term is Carol Sader of Prairie Village.

Schwan’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
