Sebelius appoints long-time educator to 2010 Commission

With Kansas part-way through a multi-year investment in quality schools, state leaders want to ensure K-12 schools in every community are receiving the resources needed to promote student success.

To help oversee the implementation of the school plan, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Emilie McGill to fulfill an unexpired four-year term on the 2010 Commission.

“Every Kansas child deserves the opportunity to go to a quality school, regardless of where he or she lives.  We need to ensure the commitment we’ve made to our schools is accomplishing that goal, and the 2010 Commission is an important part of that effort,” said Sebelius.

The 2010 Commission was created in 2005 to monitor the implementation and operation of the state’s school finance system, as well as to monitor other provisions of law relating to school finance and the quality performance accreditation system.

McGill, Wichita, is retiring this month after a 37-year career in education, most recently as the director of early childhood development for USD 259.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in elementary administration.

Also reappointed to the 2010 Commission was Ray Daniels, Kansas City, to serve a two-year term.
