Sebelius appoints Lawrence resident to commission on crime Keeping Kansas’ criminal code tough, effective and fair is one of the goals of the Kansas Criminal Code Recodification Commission. To advance the group’s mission, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Edward Collister, Jr., to a four-year term on the commission. “It’s important our sentencing guidelines reflect our state’s values, but also are examined in the context of other states’ guidelines. This commission helps ensure justice is served,” said Sebelius. The Kansas Criminal Code Recodification Commission makes recommendations concerning proposed modifications, amendments and additions to state criminal code. Part of this involves reviewing Kansas sentencing policies in relation to those of other states. Collister, Lawrence, is a partner in the law firm of Collister & Kampschroeder, having established the firm in 1972. He graduated from the University of Kansas Law School in 1964 and after work in private practice spent four years as an assistant attorney general. Collister is also a contract attorney for the Kansas Commission on Judicial Qualifications, as well as being a member of the Judicial Council Criminal Law Advisory Committee. # # # |
