Governor reappoints six to oversee Kansas’ sentencing guidelines
Individuals will continue service on Kansas Sentencing Commission

The state’s sentencing guidelines are designed to ensure fair and just punishment for offenders. To oversee the continued review and updating of those guidelines, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has re-appointed six members to the Kansas Sentencing Commission.

“We rely on fair and just sentencing to ensure that those offenders who can reform get that chance, and those who can’t reform stay locked up.  The Sentencing Commission helps provide the guidelines for those decisions and I appreciate these six individuals’ willingness to continue their service,” said Sebelius.

The Kansas Sentencing Commission is tasked with developing post-implementation monitoring procedures; evaluating sentencing guidelines; advising and consulting the Secretary of Corrections on various issues; and consulting and advising the Legislature as to the implementation, management, monitoring, maintenance and operations of the state’s sentencing guidelines.

The reappointed members are:

Junius Dotson, Wichita
Thomas Drees, Hays
Dale Finger, Topeka
Annie Grevas, Salina
Rick Kittel, Lawrence
Daniel Monnat, Wichita

These members will each serve two-year terms ending June 30, 2009.
