Sebelius names Daniel Cahill to serve as Wyandotte Co. judge
Experienced attorney fills bench vacated by retiring judge

Highlighting his experience in private practice and as an assistant district attorney, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Daniel Cahill to serve as a district judge for Wyandotte County.

“Our justice system is based on the fairness, integrity and good faith of its judges, attorneys, investigators, witnesses and others.  Dan exemplifies the traits we look for in a judge and will bring his experience, skill and care for his community to this important post,” Sebelius said.

Cahill, Kansas City, is currently an attorney in private practice, having previously served as an assistant district attorney in Wyandotte County.  He held that position from 1996 to 2000 and during that time brought to jury trial more than 50 cases, including 12 murder cases.  He was also often called upon by police to respond to major crime scenes.

Cahill earned a degree in criminal justice from Washburn University in 1990 before going on to graduate from Washburn School of Law in 1995.  While in law school, Cahill was a legal intern for the district attorneys in Sedgwick and Johnson counties.

Cahill will serve out the unexpired term of Judge David Mikesic who retired from the bench in May.  Cahill will be eligible to stand for election in November, 2008.

Dan and his wife, Tina, also an attorney, have two children, Emma, 4, and Aidan, 2, and are expecting their third child in the next several weeks.
