Governor names Kansans to help guide state government
Several appointments, reappointments to state boards and commissions made

To help guide the decisions of state government, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has made several appointments and reappointments to various state boards and commissions.

“These boards allow Kansans of all walks of life to participate in setting the direction of our state.  By lending their expertise and experience to these groups, these individuals are ensuring state government represents the best interests of all Kansans,” Sebelius said.

State Representative Steven Brunk, Bel Aire, was appointed to the Workforce Network of Kansas Board. Brunk chairs the House Commerce and Labor Committee and was first elected to the Kansas Legislature in 2002.

The Workforce Network of Kansas Board oversees and coordinates employment training programs and services provided by workforce development centers in Kansas.  Brunk will serve at the pleasure of the Governor.

Dr. Joel E. Hornung, Council Grove, was appointed as a member of the Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services.  He is currently in private practice in Council Grove and is an advisor to several area EMS operations.

The Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services works to ensure quality out-of-hospital care is available throughout Kansas by providing guidance to and oversight of emergency medical services providers.  Hornung will fulfill an unexpired four-year term ending May 31, 2009.

Cindy Howard, Wichita, was reappointed to the Kansas Humanities Council to serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2010. This council is a private, non-profit cultural organization that promotes understanding of the history, traditions and ideas that continue to shape our state.

Dr. Mark Balderston, Shawnee, and Ronald Holt, Wichita, were reappointed to the Kansas Athletic Commission. These reappointments are both for four-year terms ending June 30, 2011. This commission supervises all regulated sports and professional wrestling performances held in the state.

Finally, Cecil Kingsley, Lawrence, and Philip Meyer, Wichita, were reappointed to the State Board of Technical Professions for four-year terms ending June 30, 2011. This board registers and licenses engineers, architects, surveyors and landscape architects in Kansas.
