Sebelius eliminates barriers to reopening of Greensburg businesses
Executive order suspends several charges that could hinder recovery

To ease the financial burden on business owners whose livelihoods were destroyed during this month’s severe storms, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed an executive order suspending provisions that would hinder a business’s ability to reopen.

“Getting the businesses of Greensburg and surrounding areas up and running again is a critical part of rebuilding the community and we want to eliminate barriers that could prevent businesses from reopening,” Sebelius said.

Executive Order 07-14:

  • Suspends the charging of employer accounts for unemployment benefits paid as a result of the disaster;
  • Suspends interest and penalties for failing to file wage reports or make contribution payments under Kansas’ Employment Security Law for the second and third quarters of 2007; and
  • Lifts requirements for the payment of fees for the inspection of newly installed or replacement boilers or pressure vessels.

These actions apply to businesses and employers impacted by the May 5 storms for which Governor Sebelius declared a state of emergency in Kiowa, Barton, Stafford, Pratt, Edwards and Phillips counties.
