Parkinson and Snyder to participate in Girard mentoring event

Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson and Coach Bill Snyder are participating in the Kansas Mentors training session in Girard, Kansas, on May 15.

This training session, which is free of charge, will provide instruction on grant writing, risk management, mentor/mentee training, marketing and recruitment.

“The purpose of Kansas Mentors is to connect existing mentoring programs and assist communities wishing to start programs,” said Coach Snyder, chair of Kansas Mentors. “These sessions will provide the tools needed to give more youngsters access to mentoring in our state.”

This is the fourth in a series of six regional workshops Kansas Mentors is hosting throughout the state.  These training sessions are designed to provide communities the tools they need to start a program or help existing mentoring organizations enhance their programs.

Lt. Governor Parkinson, who serves on the Leadership Council of Kansas Mentors, will kick off the session in Girard.  Coach Snyder will serve as the luncheon speaker.

“The work we do to support and mentor Kansas young people is the most vital component in ensuring a bright future for our state,” Parkinson said.  “I’m looking forward to meeting with the residents of Southeast Kansas who are working to help young Kansans reach their full potential.”

The session will be at the Southeast Kansas Educational Service Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Although the sessions are free, registration is required due to limited space.
