Governor appoints Topekan to Coordinating Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed C. Patrick Woods to the Coordinating Council on Early Childhood Development Services. “Patrick has been a strong voice in both my administration and his community for the well-being of children,” Sebelius said. “His experience and dedication to their success in school and in life will help ensure Kansas children have every opportunity to learn and grow.” The Kansas Coordinating Council on Early Childhood Development Services works with agencies, groups and individuals to make recommendations regarding the delivery of health, education and social services for families with young children from birth through age five with or at-risk for disabling conditions. Woods, Topeka, graduated from Friends University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and history. While at Friends, Woods became the first African-American to be awarded the W.O. Mendenhall Award for Outstanding Junior Man and was the inaugural recipient of the C.G. Chacko Political Science/History Award. Woods serves as education policy advisor and legislative liaison to Governor Sebelius. Woods was also recently elected to the Topeka School Board, as well as serving as a YouthFriend mentor at Landon Middle School. He’s also been a member of Topeka District Citizen’s Advisory Council and is co-chair of the Parkview-Cambridge Neighborhood Association. Woods will serve at the pleasure of the Governor. # # # |
