Kansas Adjutant General to help guide Air Force policy
Major General Tod Bunting to advise Secretary of the U.S. Air Force

The Adjutant General of the Kansas National Guard will serve on a national group advising the U.S. Air Force, Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced today.

Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting will serve on the Air Force Reserve Policy Committee after being appointed by Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne.  The two-year appointment becomes effective April 1.

The committee reviews and comments upon major policy matters directly affecting the reserve components and the mobilization preparedness of the Air Force, and provides its input to the secretary of the Air Force and the chief of staff.  The 15-member committee consists of officers at the grade of colonel or above from the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Gen. Bunting, as well as our entire state as it will allow Kansas to have input on policy affecting our airmen and women and their families,” said Sebelius. “This appointment reflects Gen. Bunting’s experience and his dedication to the men and women of the Guard.”

Sebelius appointed Bunting as the adjutant general in January 2004. As adjutant general, Bunting leads the Kansas Adjutant General’s Department, which provides personnel administration and training guidance for more than 7,600 soldiers and airmen in the Kansas National Guard.

Bunting also serves as director of homeland security for Kansas, giving him the primary authority for directing statewide activities pertaining to the prevention of and protection from terrorist-related events.   In addition, he is director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, which is responsible for preparing for and responding to disasters.
