Sebelius makes appointments to protect credit union members Thousands of Kansans are members of credit unions, and to ensure they’re protected, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Gilbert E. Benton and Gary A. Regoli to the Kansas Credit Union Council. “When you put your money in a credit union, you want to be sure it’s safe. And, if you take out a car or home loan, you want to know it’s being properly administered,” said Sebelius. The Kansas Credit Union Council supervises and regulates credit unions, working closely with the Kansas Department of Credit Unions. The goal is to protect Kansans from undue financial risk through the examination and supervision of credit unions, and to assure safe and sound operation through compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Benton, Cimarron, graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City in 1972. For the past 15 years Benton has served as chairman of the board of directors of the Credit Union of Dodge City. A member of the Cimarron Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Realtors Association, Benton is a self-employed accountant, as well as being a licensed realtor and operating a cattle ranch. Regoli, Derby, holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, and a M.B.A. from Wichita State University. He currently serves as president and CEO of the Boeing Wichita Credit Union. Regoli is active in his community through involvement with the Wichita Area Chamber, public television station KPTS and the Wichita Downtown Rotary. Both appointees will serve a three-year term. # # # |
