Governor makes appointments to oversee electronic records To develop standards that comply with various state and federal laws regarding the enforceability of electronic real estate documents, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Timothy A. Peterson and John E. Selk to the Electronic Recording Commission. The commission is developing standards to implement the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act which provides electronic real estate transactions enforceability under the law. “Technology has changed the way Kansans do business. Advances in communications technology have made it possible to do real estate business electronically, and this commission will ensure all parties are protected in those transactions,” Sebelius said. Peterson, Monument, graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in geography and quantitative methods and is a registered emergency medical technician. A former chairperson of the Kansas Farm Service Agency State Committee, Peterson is a full-time farmer, managing 2,800 acres of wheat, grain, sorghum, corn, and sunflowers. Selk, Lawrence, graduated from the University of Kansas with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. He manages survey crews at Landplan Engineering, and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Congress on Surveying & Mapping, American Society of Civil Engineers, Kansas Association of Mappers and Kansas Society of Land Surveyors. Both Peterson and Selk will serve until standards are finalized in July 2007. # # # |
