Sebelius appoints children’s advocate to early childhood council
Council promotes the health and education of children with disabilities

Citing her experience and extensive training, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Deborah Kraus Voth, Wichita, to the Coordinating Council on Early Childhood Developmental Services.

“Every child deserves a healthy start in life,” Sebelius said. “This commission helps to further that goal, and Deborah’s life-long commitment to education and disability services will provide important insight on how we, as a state, can provide the right support for our children and their parents.”

The Coordinating Council on Early Childhood Developmental Services consults with concerned individuals, groups, and agencies on proposed policies and recommendations for the delivery of health, education and social services to young children from birth through age five who have or are at-risk of developing disabling conditions, as well as services for their families.

Beginning her education at Garden City Community College, Voth went on to graduate with highest distinction from the University of Kansas. Voth earned a master’s degree and began post-graduate work at Wichita State University.

Certified in special education, school administration, elementary education, and early childhood disabilities, Voth is currently the associate director of Rainbows United, Inc., a non-profit organization serving persons with developmental disabilities.

Active in the community, she is a volunteer for the United Way, a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Maize school district’s PTA and Booster Club.

Voth, will serve a four-year term.
