Sebelius names Topeka resident to oversee real estate appraisal

To help ensure Kansas real estate is appraised in a uniform and fair manner, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Robert S. Maxwell to the Real Estate Appraisal Board.

The board regulates appraisers and was separated from the Real Estate Commission two years ago by the Kansas Legislature.

“The purchase of a home is very often the biggest purchase anyone will make.  Similarly, the purchase of a building is a major investment for a business.  That’s why it’s important that appraisals are done properly, to ensure sellers and buyers are protected,” said Sebelius.

Maxwell, Topeka, is executive vice president and trust officer at the Kaw Valley State Bank and Trust Company.  Previously, Maxwell had been president of Merrill Mortgage Company and a law clerk at Marshall Hawks, McKinney & Hendricks.

Maxwell graduated from the University of Miami School of Law with a master’s degree in taxation before receiving his law degree from Washburn University School of Law.

Also reappointed to the board was Greg Lesh, Wichita. Each will serve a three-year term.
