Sebelius signs measure to help expand airports Saline County, in an effort to meet the needs of new aerospace industry prospects, received support today as Governor Kathleen Sebelius signed a bill allowing expansion of municipal airports. “As we continue to prepare our workforce for 21st century jobs, we need to prepare our communities as well,” Sebelius said. “This bill allows the city of Salina to determine what they can do, from a resource perspective, to be attractive and flexible to new businesses.” The bill, SB 33, was sponsored by the Salina Airport Authority and supported by Saline County and the Salina Chamber of Commerce. This is the seventh bill the Governor has signed during the 2007 session and will take effect after its publication in the statute book. Increasing municipal airport general obligation bond limit SB 33 authorizes a city airport authority to increase its general obligation bond limit, issued by the authority, from the current 3 percent to 10 percent of the assessed valuation of all tangible property within the city limits for renovations, improvements, and development. # # # |
