Sebelius names advocate for older Kansans
Osage City Mayor Patrick Lawless, Jr., appointed to Advisory Council on Aging

To help ensure the interests of older Kansans are represented, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Patrick Lawless, Jr., to the Advisory Council on Aging.

“The Advisory Council on Aging helps provide a voice for older Kansans in the budget process,” said Sebelius. “Those who serve on this council are doing important work.”

The Advisory Council on Aging analyzes the budget and provides feedback on ways it can be improved to better serve older Kansans.

Lawless, Osage City, currently works as the chief appellate defender for the State of Kansas.  Previously, he served as an administrative counsel and assistant executive director to the Kansas Board of Indigents’ Defense Services. Lawless is also the Mayor of Osage City, first elected in 1995.

Receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1982 from Washburn University, Lawless went on to earn a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas in 1985 and a law degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1989.

Sebelius also reappointed Rita Griffith, Trish Moore, William Moriarity, and Larry Turner. Each will serve a three-year term.
