Governor Sebelius appoints Topeka resident to Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced her appointment of Thomas C. Yang to the State Building Advisory Committee. He will serve a four-year term. “State government could not serve Kansans without the many state buildings and facilities around the state.” Governor Sebelius said. “And as we move toward making state government a leader in energy efficient construction, it is important to have appointees on the commission with a background in energy management and facilities operations. Thomas brings incredible talent and experience to this effort.” The Advisory Committee evaluates and selects a short list of firms to be interviewed by user agencies for capital improvement projects. It also collects and maintains current data on construction costs; establishes criteria and procedures to evaluate the qualifications and performances of contractors providing architectural, engineering or construction services; and develops and adopts standards for inspection and acceptance of improvement projects. Yang holds advanced degrees from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, Mississippi State University, and the University of Indianapolis. He is a licensed engineer and general contractor. Currently, Yang is the Director of Facilities Planning and Management at Washburn University; prior to which Yang was Director of Campus Facilities Services at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Previous experiences include Facilities Engineer, Energy manager and Facilities Operations Manager at Indiana University and Director of Facilities Management at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. Yang succeeds Robert Bernicia who does not seek reappointment. D.L. Smith, Lawrence, was reappointed to the commission.# # # |
