Seven Kansas fire departments awarded federal grants
Funds to expand training opportunities, equipment availability

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued another round of grants to local firefighters, Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced today, and several Kansas fire departments are among those receiving support.

“These grants will help local fire departments provide additional training, as well as improving their firefighting capabilities by adding vehicles and equipment,” said Sebelius.

The grants were awarded in two different categories, with the Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety category including funds for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment and modifications to fire stations and facilities.  The Vehicle Acquisition category includes funds for pumpers, brush/attack units, tanker/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, aerials, and foam trucks.

These grants are administered by the Homeland Security Department’s Office for Domestic Preparedness, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

  • Saline County Rural Fire District #3, Salina
