Sebelius names professionals to oversee high accounting standards
Governor appoints two members to Kansas State Board of Accountancy

Kansas families and businesses turn to accountants for unbiased, expert help with their finances. Making sure those individuals provide first-rate service is the mission of the Kansas State Board of Accountancy, Governor Kathleen Sebelius said in reappointing Paul S. Allen and Kent Smoll to three-year terms on the board.

“We rely on accountants to help keep our personal and business finances in order. When someone’s working with your money, you want to make sure they’re qualified and are being held to high standards,” Governor Sebelius said.

The State Board of Accountancy oversees the laws and administrative regulations governing certified public accountants to ensure professionalism and integrity.

Allen, Wichita, is the chief executive of Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, L.C., Certified Public Accountants and Consultants. A certified public accountant, he has been involved in the financial examination of commercial business enterprises for more than thirty years. Allen is past chair and past member of the Board of Directors of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers and the Kansas Society of CPAs.

Smoll, Dodge City, is a managing shareholder at Smoll & Banning, CPA’s, LLC. He served on the City Commission for Dodge City from 1988 to 1992 and was mayor from 1991 to 1992. Smoll is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He served as chairperson of the Federal and State Taxation Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Society of CPAs.
