23 September 2005 Governor appoints two to ensure professional conduct of optometrists Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Dr. Gilan L. Cockrell and Dr. Jeanne F. Klopfenstein to the Kansas Board of Examiners in Optometry. Each will serve a three-year term. “Good eye health is part of being healthy overall, and Kansans expect to receive professional care whether they’re going in for a regular check-up or are seeking treatment for a more serious vision problem,” Governor Sebelius said. The Board of Examiners in Optometry administers and enforces provisions of optometry law and grants licenses. Dr. Cockrell, Emporia, has been an optometrist at Flinthills Eyecare Associates, PA since 1980. He has been active on the Kansas Eye Care Council, serving as chairman of the Eyecare Conference Committee in 1996 and 1997. In 1993 and 2000, he was given the distinguished service award from the Kansas Optometric Association, and was named optometrist of the year in 2002. Dr. Klopfenstein, Manhattan, practices optometry at Insights Eyecare. She serves on the Kansas Optometric Association, the Eye Care Council and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Klopfenstein was named a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in December 1993. |
