Prevention of rape, sexual assault goal of grants, says Governor
Sebelius announces Federal Rape Prevention Education grant awards

As part of the ongoing effort to protect Kansas families, Governor Kathleen Sebelius today announced seven sexual assault prevention projects around Kansas will receive a total of $316,950 in grants.

“Rape and sexual assault leave physical and mental scars that may never fully heal. We must continue to do everything we can to prevent these horrific acts, particularly when children are targeted. There are individuals throughout Kansas working every day to help the victims of sexual assault, and to prevent more people from becoming victims, and this money will help them continue their important work,” said Governor Sebelius.

Governor Sebelius and Secretary of Health and Environment Roderick Bremby announced today the recipients of the Federal Rape Prevention Education grants for FY 2006. The seven projects receiving these federal funds provide prevention activities designed to decrease the incidence of sexual assault against women, with priority being given to intervention programs for children and teenagers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) program, provides funding for this grant.
