Governor invites fairgoers to help launch the Kansas Quarter
Quarter launch is one of the many events of Governor’s Day at the Fair

Kansas State Fair attendees will have the opportunity to help launch the Kansas Commemorative Quarter this year as part of the annual Governor’s Day at the Fair. Governor Kathleen Sebelius will join Kansans of all ages from across the state for a celebration of the official launch of the quarter into distribution during her annual visit to the Kansas State Fair on Friday, September 9.

“More than 1,500 Kansans submitted ideas for the design of the Kansas quarter, and more than 48,000 Kansas high school students selected the winning design. The quarter’s design celebrates Kansas’ history and heritage. We hope Kansans of all ages will help launch the quarter on Friday,” Governor Sebelius said.

The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Grandstand, State Fairgrounds, Hutchinson. Admission to the event and the Fairgrounds will be free until 11:00 a.m. for this special day. The public is invited to attend and the Grandstand Gates will open at 8:30 a.m.

Immediately following the program all school children (ages 18 and under) will receive a newly minted Kansas State Quarter, compliments of the United States Mint. After the program, attendees can obtain a roll of 40 newly minted Kansas Quarters in exchange for $10 (cash only), or purchase the limited edition Kansas Commemorative Quarter Sets for $5 on the landing to the right of the stage. Central Bank and Trust Co., Hutchinson, will be the sponsoring state bank for the event and will host the coin exchange.

Governor’s Day at the Fair also includes many activities for fairgoers and participants to meet and visit with the Governor.

“Attending the Kansas State Fair is something I look forward to each year. As Kansans, we have a lot to be proud of and the Fair really highlights the accomplishments of the people of Kansas,” Governor Sebelius said.
