6 September 2005 Governor directs flags to be lowered in honor of Hurricane Katrina victims The following is a statement by Governor Kathleen Sebelius: “To pay respect to the hundreds of thousands of victims subjected to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, I am ordering Kansas flags to be flown at half-staff. “Following United States of America and State of Kansas flag protocol, I have requested all flags to be lowered until sunset, Tuesday, September 20. I urge all Kansans to join me in this measure of respect for our fellow Americans. “In addition to our respect, they need our support, our generosity and our prayers.” The President has ordered that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff until sunset, Tuesday, September 20. Under United States protocol, the Governor joins the President in this action. |
