Governor to promote rural development during Kearny Co. visit
Sebelius to meet with local residents during August 23 visit

Helping rural communities to grow and prosper will be the focus of Governor Kathleen Sebelius’ upcoming visit to Kearny County.

On August 23, the Governor will visit with community members at a 10 a.m. public meeting at the Kearny County Courthouse, 305 N. Main Street in Lakin. She will then travel to the Kearny County Airport to receive a special tour of the Weather Modification Program.

“As I travel the state, what I hear from Kansans is that they’re proud of our strong rural heritage. We must continue to support that heritage, which means investing in schools and businesses everywhere in Kansas. It also means finding new markets and new products for our farmers and ranchers, and that remains a priority for me,” Governor Sebelius said.

The Governor promised to reschedule this visit initially planned for July, after the Legislature’s Special Session for Kansas Schools forced the second half of her state tour to be postponed.
