17 August 2005 Sebelius to emphasize jobs and schools in Wellington Good jobs and good schools, and the relation between the two, will be the focus as Governor Kathleen Sebelius visits Wellington next week. On August 22 at 3:15 p.m., the Governor will visit Lincoln Elementary School, 104 South F. She’ll recognize the fifth grade class that received the Academic Achievement Award in mathematics. “Our students aren’t just competing with students from other states, but from other countries. It makes me proud to see the achievement of students around Kansas, including in Wellington, because I know that good schools mean good jobs,” Governor Sebelius said. “And while we invest in schools, we also need to make sure schools are accountable and that money is going to classrooms.” Governor Sebelius will then tour the Wellington Municipal Airport to highlight the importance of the new runway project to Wellington’s economic prosperity. The event will be at 3:30 p.m. at the airport, 441 N. West Road. The Governor promised to reschedule the visit initially planned for July, after the Legislature’s Special Session for Kansas Schools forced the second half of her state tour to be postponed. |
