Governor Sebelius appoints two to KPERS Board

Governor Kathleen Sebelius today announced her appointments of Rachel Lipman Reiber and Michael Braude to the board of Kansas Public Employees’ Retirement System. The Senate confirmed the appointments today.

KPERS provides three statewide defined benefit retirement plans for state and local public employees: the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System, the Kansas Police and Firemen’s Retirement System and the Kansas Retirement System for judges. In all, KPERS provides retirement benefits for almost 240,000 Kansans.

“We have an obligation to provide retirement security for the men and women who have dedicated their careers to serving the people of Kansas. This is an important duty and one that I’m confident my appointments to the KPERS Board will fulfill,” Governor Sebelius said.

Reiber, Olathe, is vice president of regulatory and governmental affairs for Everest Connections. Between 1995 and 2001, she served in various capacities as Sprint including director of state regulatory affairs and senior attorney. Prior to 1995, she was a member of the Kansas Corporation Commission. Reiber graduated from the University of Kansas with both her undergraduate degree and law degree.

Braude, Kansas City, served as president and CEO of the Kansas City Board of Trade, a commodity futures exchange, until his retirement in 2000. He serves as director of the Midwest Trust Co., Midwest Grain Products, Inc., and NPC International. He also writes a weekly column for the Kansas City Business Journal. Braude received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and his graduate degree from Columbia University in New York.
