Governor Sebelius appoints Bruce Flanders to Information Network of Kansas

Governor Kathleen Sebelius today announced her appointment of Bruce Flanders, Lawrence, to a three-year term on the Information Network of Kansas.

The Information Network of Kansas provides electronic access to public information of state agencies.

“We’ve been working hard to make our government run more like a business. Conducting more state business online is part of this effort,” Governor Sebelius said. “Bruce will bring to the board a fresh perspective and experience in expanding technology in public venues.”

Flanders, Lawrence, has been the director of the Lawrence Public Library since 1995. As director, he has been responsible for technological improvements at the library and long-range strategic planning regarding library services for the community.

Flanders is a guest lecturer on graduate library science courses in several states, including Kansas’ Emporia State University. Between 1978 and 1994, he was the director of technology and documents and interlibrary loan librarian at the Kansas State Library. Flanders was also a contributing editor for American Libraries magazine. He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas and his masters of library science from the University of Illinois.
