27 April 2005 Governor Sebelius appoints two to Board of Cosmetology Governor Kathleen Sebelius today announced the appointment of Anita Pankalla to a three-year term on the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology. She also reappointed Dereama Allenbaugh to the board for another three-year term. The State Board of Cosmetology regulates the profession of cosmetology and protects the health and safety of the consuming public by licensing qualified individuals and enforcing standards of practice. “This board is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of services utilized by virtually every Kansan,” Governor Sebelius said. “Members of the board are charged with ensuring professionalism in the industry, so I’m pleased to appoint two leaders in the field.” Pankalla, Clearview City, is the cosmetology coordinator at Johnson County Community College. There she is involved in all aspects of cosmetology, from education to product sales. Before joining JCCC, Pankalla worked as a consultant for Midwest Consulting Group, assisting companies such as Sprint with financial accounting and computer systems analysis. Pankalla came to Kansas from Oklahoma in 1997 when she took a job with Johnson County as a financial programmer and analyst. Allenbaugh, Hays, has held cosmetology licenses in Texas and Kansas since 1978. She was first appointed to serve on the Board in 2002 and was made vice-chairperson last year. Allenbaugh is also a member of the Hays Art Council and has been active in the restoration of historic downtown Hays, where she owns and operates a salon. She has also run a spa in Hays since 1999. |
