21 April 2005 Governor Sebelius Signs KU Staff Bill Governor Kathleen Sebelius today took part in a ceremonial bill-signing of Senate Bill 74, which provides for greater flexibility in determining pay and working conditions for many employees at the University of Kansas. The bill allows, but does not require, a conversion of classified positions to unclassified status. “Given that the classified staff voted in favor of this proposal, I am happy to endorse a policy that will make KU personnel policies more flexible and business-like,” said Governor Sebelius. “In this highly competitive era, universities need more options in rewarding their key staff.” Governor Sebelius restated her continuing strong support for the labor unions, including those representing state employees. “These organizations remain central to protecting the rights of public employees, but the new KU policy will help offer incentives to valuable staff members within the University,” she said. |
