Governor Expresses Sorrow, Pride for Fallen Deputy

Governor Kathleen Sebelius issues the following statement:

“I am deeply saddened we have lost another brave law enforcement officer in the line of duty.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and law enforcement colleagues of Harvey County Deputy Sheriff Kurt Ford, who was killed in the line of duty this morning.

“This is a solemn reminder of the sacrifice our law enforcement officers make each day as they protect the people of Kansas. Words cannot express the deep loss we feel for this brave public servant and his family.”

Deputy Ford will be honored along with Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels by the State of Kansas in a special ceremony for Peace Officers Memorial Day, in May. That ceremony will take place at the Capitol. Details on the event will be released once finalized.
