6 April 2005 Governor signs bill to keep 190 jobs in Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius today signed into law a bill that will keep the 190 jobs of Innovia Films, Inc. in Shawnee County. The Qualified Manufacturer Act (HB 2265) ensures Innovia’s presence in Kansas for at least five years. “Keeping good jobs here at home is one of my top priorities. Whenever possible, state government should work with the business community to create and keep jobs in Kansas. Innovia is an important part of the local economy and I’m pleased to sign this bill,” Governor Sebelius said. Innovia’s employees receive an average wage and salary of at least $50,000 plus benefits and the company currently has an investment in Kansas of at least $26.0 million. Under the provisions of the Qualified Manufacturer Act, Innovia could receive up to $1.0 million in Kansas income tax withholding paid by the manufacturer to its employees for four years. Kansas has added 19,600 jobs since Governor Sebelius took office. |
