School Finance Bill Forwarded to Kansas Supreme Court
Sebelius says choice on constitutionality is with the Court

The following statement is from Governor Kathleen Sebelius:

“This afternoon, my chief counsel delivered HB2247, the school finance bill, to the Supreme Court. As previously announced, I will allow this bill to become law on April 16th without my signature. By immediately forwarding this bill to the Court, I hope to speed consideration of the legislature’s response to the Court’s January 3rd decision.

“Whether this bill meets the legislature’s constitutional responsibility is for the Court, not for me, to decide.

“As governor, I believe the legislature’s school funding plan is neither responsible nor sustainable. It jeopardizes the state’s finances, as well as jobs and economic growth throughout Kansas.”
