Governor Sebelius to Send Legislature’s Effort on Schools to Supreme Court
Governor will send bill without her signature

The following statement is from Governor Kathleen Sebelius:

“The Legislature has acted on school finance, and I am pleased they have taken a first step in funding Kansas schools. As soon as I receive the bill, I will allow it to become law without my signature and forward it immediately to the Supreme Court.

“The Court will now review the Legislature’s work, and I hope the process can move forward as quickly as possible.

“Despite some patchwork progress that provides more money for schools, I still see no long-term plan, especially in funding public education for years to come. In the end, this bill fails Kansas children, fails their families, and fails our schools.

“I await the Court’s action and will work with the Legislature, in the best interests of Kansas schoolchildren and Kansas taxpayers, whatever the ruling.”
