22 March 2005 Governor Sebelius Appoints Sheriff to Advisory Committee Governor Kathleen Sebelius has announced the appointment of Sheriff John M. Calhoon to the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee advises the director of architectural services and the state historical society on the memorials of law enforcement officers on the State Capitol grounds, recommends commemoration of law enforcement officers to the Governor and the Legislature and works to solicit grants, gifts, contributions and bequests for the memorial. “The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is just one way that we honor those men and women who have fallen in the line of duty,” Gov. Sebelius said. “I thank Sheriff Calhoon for his willingness serve the people of Kansas as we honor law enforcement.” Calhoon, Atchison, is Sheriff for Atchison County. A native Kansan, Calhoon comes to the position after 19 years of criminal justice work including serving in the Horton Police Dept. He will serve on the committee at the pleasure of the Governor. |
