17 March 2005 Governor Sebelius Announces Funding to Implement Wireless Enhanced 911 Governor Kathleen Sebelius, on behalf of the Kansas Wireless Enhanced 911 Advisory Board, announced today that 34 Kansas Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) have been awarded a total of $3,023,410 from the E911 state grant. Grant funds will assist Public Safety Answering Points in: implementing wireless enhanced 911 services; purchasing equipment or upgrading and modifying equipment used solely to process wireless enhanced 911 services; purchasing licensing fees for equipment; and providing training to operate the equipment, including costs to train personnel to provide effective services for those who have communication disabilities. “I am very pleased to provide this funding to local communities to assist their efforts in implementing wireless enhanced 911,” Governor Sebelius said. “This will help communities locate and respond to all emergency 911 calls made from cell phone users, speeding up response time and saving lives.” The Kansas Wireless Enhanced 911 Advisory Board determines the final grant awards for the state grant funds. Members of the Board are: Diane Gage, Sedgwick County and representing PSAP with a population of more than 15,000; Pat Thetford, Kansas City, representing local exchange service provider; Bob Boaldin, Morton County, representing the Kansas Association of Counties; Don DeHaven, Harvey County, representing the League of Kansas Municipalities; Kermit Crane, Shawnee County, representing law enforcement; Mike Napolitano, Barton County, representing local fire and emergency management services; Jim Jarboe, Kearney County, representing PSAP with a population of less than 15,000; Dick Veach, Grant County, representing wireless carriers industry; and John Gaunt, Sedgwick County, representing Kansas Highway Patrol. E911 state grant funds are generated from a 25-cent-monthly fee imposed on each wireless service account in Kansas. Counties with population of less than 75,000 or any city located within such a county are eligible for E911 state grant funds. Recipients of the 2005 Wireless Enhanced 911 State Grant:
