16 March 2005 Governor’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Weekend Governor Kathleen Sebelius and her husband, Judge Gary Sebelius, invite the public to attend the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event, a tradition since 1965, enables children ages 1 to 9 to hunt for candy-filled Easter Eggs at 11 a.m., Saturday March 19, at MacLennan Park, Cedar Crest. Since the first hunt hosted by Governor and Mrs. Bill Avery, the event has drawn a crowd of children and parents. Based on past experience, the Sebelius family expects quite a crowd. Approximately 12,000 eggs will be distributed around the area awaiting little hunters. Generous sponsors help make the event a success. This year nearly 30 organizations are contributing to make this a success. Candyopolis of Olathe will once again secure the eggs are filled with candy, with the help of, among others, Dr. Pepper, Shake’s Frozen Custard, Hobby Lobby and 94.5 Country. Others will provide transportation, pre-event entertainment and volunteers. “The Annual Easter Egg Hunt is truly a community effort,” Governor Sebelius said. “It’s great watching excited Kansas kids gather up eggs and have some fun with the Easter Bunny, who usually makes time to hop by.” |
