Governor Sebelius signs bill to repeal used car sales tax provision

Governor Kathleen Sebelius at 9 a.m. this morning signed SB 23, the bill to repeal the used car sales tax provision that had been in place since July 1, 2004. The signing took place in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office.

“I am pleased the Legislature has taken quick action to correct this bill,” Gov. Sebelius said. “Those Kansans who paid more than their fair share will now be able to collect refunds. This is absolutely the right course of action,” Gov. Sebelius concluded.

The bill will be published and become effective March 3.

The new law will initiate a refund procedure for those who have overpaid their taxes on a used car transaction since last July 1.

Revenue Secretary Joan Wagnon will hold a press conference early next week to explain the refund procedure prior to the bill being published in the Kansas Register.
