23 February 2005 Governor Sebelius Announces $1.4 Million in Assistance for Crimes Against Women Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced that 20 Kansas organizations received a total of $1,462,783 million from the Federal S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Act Grant Program. Grant funds assist law enforcement officers and prosecutors establish strategies to combat violent crimes against women and allow victim service organizations develop and enhance services for women involved in violent crimes. Law enforcement agencies, prosecution offices, courts and non-profit victim organizations received funds for calendar year 2005. “I’m pleased we can directly assist crime victims by helping to maintain 24-hour hotlines, providing safe and secure shelter, offering bi-lingual court advocates, sending domestic violence advocates with law enforcement on domestic violence calls, intensify prosecution efforts and many other invaluable services,” Governor Sebelius said. Funds are available to units of government and not-for-profit organizations by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. Recipients of the 2005 Federal S.T.O.P.
