Gov. Sebelius makes Mental Health Planning Council appointment

Jane Adams, has been appointed to a four-year term on the Governor’s Mental Health Planning Council, Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced.

“I am pleased Dr. Adams has accepted this appointment and I am confident her years of dedication and service on education and mental health will benefit adults who utilize mental health services across the state,” said Governor Sebelius.

Adams, Topeka, has been involved in many aspects of education and health policy throughout her productive career. She began as a college English instructor after graduating from Marymount College in Salina in 1969, and then attained a master’s degree in learning and behavioral disorders, as well as a doctorate in special education. From 2002-2004 she served as a presidential appointee to the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. She has been a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Advisory Panel in Kansas, worked with Washburn University and the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, and served on numerous other state boards and councils. Most recently Adams worked as Executive Director of Keys for Networking, Inc.

The Governor’s Mental Health Planning Council advises the governor on adult services issues.
