15 February 2005 Gov. Sebelius makes African American Affairs Commission appointment Curtis L. Whitten was appointed to a three-year term on the Kansas African American Affairs Commission, Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced. The Kansas African American Affairs Commission addresses issues of equity for African Americans and serves as a conduit for programs, grants, research, and policy advice for state and local organizations in addressing concerns that are unique to the African American community in the State of Kansas. Governor Sebelius said, “Curtis’ work in the Wichita community is respected and appreciated.” She continued, “His experience and perspective will be most beneficial to the African Affairs Commission.” Whitten, Wichita, has been a criminal investigator for Sedgwick County Public Defenders since 1996. He previously worked as an investigator for the federal Drug Enforcement Agency as well has the State of Kansas. Whitten is also Executive Director of the Wichita Colts Association, Inc., on the Board of Directors of the Kansas African American Museum, and has been involved with Big Brothers, Big Sisters since 1993. |
