EXECUTIVE ORDER 07-08

WHEREAS, on the 5th day of May, 2007, I declared a state of emergency for Kiowa, Barton, Stafford, Pratt, Edwards and Phillips counties as a result of severe weather, including, tornados, hail, high winds and flooding which struck, causing loss of life, personal injury and excessive damage to businesses and homes; and

WHEREAS, employees of the State of Kansas may be among those who are called to serve by the American Red Cross as part of relief efforts; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the State of Kansas, as an employer of citizens who may be called to deployment for duty, to take steps to accommodate the employees who will be serving our country as part of those relief efforts.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Kansas, I hereby order State of Kansas employees called by the American Red Cross and who are certified to serve in relief efforts resulting from the above-mentioned severe weather, eligible for disaster leave under the provisions of K.S.A. 75-5548 and amendments thereto.

This document shall be filed with the Secretary of State as Executive Order 07-08 and shall become effective immediately.
