< Home Welcome to Cedar Crest, the Governor's residence. Cedar Crest stands unique among our nation's Governors' residences. The three-story home has less than 6,000 square feet, making it the most intimate of all of our nation's Governor's homes. However, it is the only Governor's residence to sit in a wildlife refuge and park and has the largest amount of property, 244 acres. Cedar Crest is not our first Kansas governor's residence. The first official residence was located at 801 Buchanan, much closer to the state capitol building. Built in 1887, it was acquired by the state in 1901 and served as the governor's home for 61 years. Cedar Crest was bequeathed to Kansas by Madge Overstreet MacLennan and her late husband, Frank, in 1955. Cedar Crest has been home to every Kansas Governor since 1962.
