The Dining Room

old photo of the Cedar Crest Library
The intimate dining room (shown left) -- it seats a maximum of 14 -- includes a table, matching buffet and china cabinet acquired during the governorship of Andrew Schoeppel in the mid-1940's. The walnut sideboard belonged to Governor George Anthony (1877-1879).

The silver service which includes a punch bowl and cups, a coffee and tea service, candelabras, a pitcher and serving trays is from the U.S.S. Battleship Kansas. The service was purchased with a $5,000 appropriation from the Kansas Legislature for this Kansas namesake, which was christened by Governor Hoch's daughter, Anna, in 1905.

Page Clark, a Comanche Indian, first painted the raised relief on the ceiling in the 1970's. He did the painting while lying on his back on scaffolding. It was restored during the home's renovation and glazed to enhance the beauty of the flowers, fruit and Scottish thistle.
